    Luangpor Mui Wat Don Rai

Luangpor Mui was born “Cherm” on the 5th of Dec B.E. 2431 year of Ox during the reign of King Rama 5. He was the 4th of 5 siblings of Por Mueng (father) and Mae Chang (mother) to a farming family.

During his younger days, he helped his parents in the farm till his late teen whereby he was selected to join the army but for some unknown reason, he was discharged, not servicing a single day.

After which, he ordained as a monk in B.E. 2452 at Wat Tha Chang, Suphan Buri province. Luangpor Kanod Wat Tha Chang was his preceptor and Luangpor Yim Wat Hua Khao was his Dharma instructor.

Luangpor Mui was a fast learner and was able to learn meditation practise and Buddhist text from both teachers and excelled on them. When Luangpor Mui had been ordained for about 13 years, he disrobed to help his ageing parents on their farm.

However, not long after he disrobed, he fell seriously ill. That is when he make a wish that if he were to recover from his illness, he will ordain once again. He also changes his name from Cherm to Mui. Miraculously, not long after he make that wish, he recovered fully from the illness.

Months after he recovered, Mui ordained again in B.E. 2465 at Wat Tak Kah, Si Prachan district, Suphan Buri province. Luangpor Oon of Wat Tak Kah was his preceptor, Phra Ajahn Goon & Phra Ajahn Tuan of Wat Ban Krang were his two Dharma instructors. He was given the Buddhist name of Puttaratito.

After this time of ordination, Luangpor Mui continues his learning from many of his teachers, some of them were:

    1) Luangpu Suk Wat Makhamtao
    2) Luangpu Yim Wat Hua Khao
    3) Luangpor Plang Wat Wimonpotaram
    4) Luangpor Kanod Wat Tha Chang
    5) Phra Ajahn Tuan Wat Ban Krang
    6) Phra Ajahn Goon Wat Tak Kah
    7) Luangpor Oon Wat Tak Kak (same era as Luangpu Niam Wat Noi)
8)Luangpor Ben Wat Derm Ban (teacher of Luangpor Guay)
    9) Ajahn Goon (most famous white robe in Suphan Buri at that time)
    10) Luangpor Plem Wat Plow

Luangpor Mui learned Wicha Akom (magical skill) and other form of Buddhist studies from Luangpor Yim and manage to learn all of his master's skill in short period of time. Luangpor Yim reckon that Luangpor Mui was very talented and will be a waste not to further his learning. Thus, he brought Luangpor Mui to his own teacher, Luangpu Suk of Wat Makhamtao, Chainat province.

Luangpor Mui and Luangpor Yim stayed together to learn from Luangpu Suk at Wat Makhamtao and Luangpu Suk taught Luangpor Mui most of his skills and he became a close disciple. Luangpor Mui did managed to learn and excel in most of what his new teacher taught. Luangpu Suk praised him for his talent and wisdom only second to one of his lay disciple, Admiral Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak – son of King Rama 4.

Luangpor Mui was a pure-minded monk who practised Buddhism wholeheartedly. He was also a monk of few words but were extremely kind to all including animals, where he used to feed in the temple.

Luangpor Mui passed away of old age at Wat Don Rai in B.E. 2517 at age 85 years and 41 days. His body was undecayed and displayed in glass coffin for followers to worship till today.
